Kirby Stands Tall In Ramblers Victory

The Amherst CIBC Wood Gundy Ramblers were aiming to secure their third consecutive win as they returned to home ice for the first of eight matches against the Truro Bearcats.

The action began midway through the first period when Mathis Perron took the puck from a Truro defender along the half-board and passed it to Liam Travis. Travis then left it for Charles Antoine Lavallee, who beat the Truro goalkeeper on the blocker side to give the Ramblers the lead. Eight minutes after Lavallee’s goal, the Ramblers scored again. Michael Pilgrim picked up the puck against the boards and sent it towards the net. The puck deflected off a Truro defender and went into the net, marking Pilgrim’s first MHL goal and sending the Ramblers into the intermission with a 2-0 lead.

Just over halfway through the second period, the Bearcats managed to score a shorthanded goal, making it a one-goal game. Mathis Perron responded two and a half minutes later by receiving a pass from Jonah Jelley and shooting the puck between the legs of the Bearcats goalie, restoring the Ramblers’ two-goal advantage heading into the third period.

In the final period, both goalies put on a remarkable display, maintaining the score at 3-1 until the final minutes. With less than 30 seconds remaining and the goalie on the bench, Truro scored their second goal, making it 3-2. However, that would be the last goal of the game as the Ramblers secured their third consecutive win at the start of the 2024-25 regular season.

There is not too much rest for the Ramblers as they will have tomorrow off before hitting the ice for  Monday afternoon game as the Yarmouth Mariners make the trip to the Jungle at 4:00 pm.
